University of Washington Cycling Team to host Tyler Ferrar

November 21, 2011 - I received the following email from Gennie from the UW Cycling Team. Feel free to join if you will be in Seattle on November 29th.

I'm thrilled to announce that our sponsor InHealth is helping us put on a fundraiser with Tyler Farrar and Dr. Dan Tripps on Tuesday, November 29th at 6:30pm! The event will be at at Northcut Landing, right across 25th Ave NE from U Village (5001 25th Ave NE- http://northcutlanding.com/location/location.html).

We'll have the chance to hear from Tour de France stage winner and Garmin-Cervelo rider Tyler Farrar in a Q-and-A discussion format on everything from his experiences in the Grand Tours to his start in his hometown of Wenatchee, Washington. Dr. Tripps, a national authority in exercise physiology and sports psychology, will also be sharing on the topic of "The Psychology of Winning." Admission will be at a $5-10 suggested donation, with all proceeds going to the Husky Cycling Club. Parking is limited, so please carpool or bike to the event if at all possible. And, please feel free to forward information for this event to anyone who may be interested!

This will be a unique opportunity to hear from some of the top experts in the country on thinking and performing like a champion - and it will all go towards benefiting our club. Let me know if you have any questions - hope you can make it out!

Time to renew clubs for 2012

November 1, 2011 - Clubs can now renew for 2012 on the USAC website. The form you will need to submit can be found here. You will need to submit this form with payment in order to be renewed for next year. You can pay this fee online if that is more convenient. Riders will be able to purchase their licenses for 2012 starting Dec 1. If your club is not renewed, riders will be unable to purchase a license and attach to your team until the paperwork is processed.

University of Washington Cycling Team Hosts Mayor of Seattle

October 17, 2011 - On October 15th, 2011, the University of Washington Cycling Team hosted the Major of Seattle on a bike ride. Gennie Gebhart, President of the UW Cycling Team had this to say about the event: The club hosted the Mayor of Seattle Mike McGinn at our weekly morning ride! Mayor McGinn has been consistently involved in bicycle advocacy and in making Seattle a safer place for cyclists, so we wanted to publicly thank him and induct him as an "honorary member" of our club. In return, he said a few words to the over 50 (!) members in attendance in recognition of the club and of the importance of cycling in Seattle. This event put our club and collegiate cycling "on the map" with the Mayor's office - and, just as importantly, showed our brand-new members and everyone else the incredible range of what collegiate cycling clubs are capable of accomplishing!

Pictures from the event can be found below (credit to our recent alumna Katie Houck, www.khouck.com), and full video of the event and media coverage below:

2011 Cyclocross Schedule Posted

Women's Listserve

September 28, 2011 - An idea that has bounced around between the other conference directors is to have a women's only list serve for women to discuss cycling from their perspective. Using that idea, I setup a women's only mailing list on the conference server. Besides providing a place for women to describe racing from their perspective, it also provides an archive for future women's riders to peruse when considering racing. This listserve will be lightly moderated: if I find any men on the listserve or attempting to post on the listserve you will be promptly booted.
